Greenspaces

Our dream is now realised!

After two years working as a creative partnerships 'change school' and winning the Big Lottery 'People's Millions' in November 2010, Greenspaces at Victoria school is now completed and open.

ITV News presenter Sameena Ali Khan launched the opening celebration on 20 July 2011 when over 200 people attended.

The Eden style outdoor learning space is centred around a large glass Solardome, surrounded by lawns and flower and vegetable gardens, paved terraces and pathways, and a stone circle, visually enhanced by artworks and willow sculptures.

The children and staff have many exciting ideas for using and developing the space, both for learning and for leisure.

The children have been working with an organic gardener to grow vegetables, and will be planting a willow dome with willow artist Tom Hares.

Victoria school has been taking measures to become 'greener', led by an Eco committee. Science teacher Margaret Duffill has co-ordinated work to achieve the Bronze 'Eco Award' in June 2011, and is now working on the 'Silver Eco Award'.

A time capsule was buried under one of the standing stones in June 2011 to mark the completion of the building of Greenspaces - after a year of fundraising and winning£50,000 in the ITV Television 'People's Millions' contest.

We have now raised funds and drawn up plans for Greenspaces Phase 2 works - a 'beach' themed play area for lower school.

We will soon be starting to raise funds for Phase 3 plans - to renovate the wheelchair track and build the Nursery play area.
