Music

Our purpose built music studio is fully equipped with grand piano, audio-visual system, drum-kit, a wide selection of World percussion instruments, and music technology equipment (soundbeam, keyboards, sampler, iPads and wireless speakers). The room is spacious enough to hold concerts and training sessions for about 70 people.

Music is now taught by class teachers, to all pupils in regular weekly sessions. Specialist music teachers are also engaged regularly to enhance the curriculum offer.

In addition all lower school pupils attend weekly Singing and Signing sessions co-ordinated by our Speech and Language Therapy department.

Our class teachers also use music throughout the day within lesson delivery, and as part of morning greeting and home-time routines, and assemblies.

In addition to the regular music curriculum, Victoria school offers extra-curricular musical activities for pupils:

  • School Choir - Choir is an optional lunchtime activity for pupils who enjoy singing. Choir perform in school events and in local community events throughout the year.
  • Signing Choir - Signing Choir is an inclusive popular lunchtime activity, where pupils enjoy popular music by signing along to the songs.
  • Music Therapy - Some pupils attend weekly music therapy sessions.

Visiting Musicians: Concerts and Workshops

All pupils in school attend workshops and concerts with visiting musicians. These are often linked to topics within the curriculum, particularly during the Spring term when the whole school topic takes place.

We have an established a long partnership with CBSO musicians, who deliver an extended creative music project every year, culminating in a performance within school. We host regular CBSO ensemble concerts and workshops in school.

Some classes attend the Birmingham school concerts at Symphony Hall.
