Rights Respecting Schools

Our school is explicitly embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in its policy, practice and culture. We are promoting knowledge and understanding of the Convention throughout our school community. We are beginning to see the positive impact of these actions on children and young people, staff, and on the school’s ethos, practice and environment. Children and young people are beginning to see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and advocates for fairness and children’s rights, both locally and globally.

Being a rights aware school helps reinforce the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of the law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

"We have a right to be heard and a child's perspective is equally valuable" (School Council Member)

"All students have the right to be included in making decisions and I can help them find ways to say yes and no." (Student Senior Leadership Team)
