Executive Head Teacher

Salary: L33 – L39 (£92,624-£ £107,239)

The Federation comprises two special schools and one 19-25 special college in Birmingham.  The travel time between the two sites is 7 minutes.  The schools are LA maintained, whilst the College is an Independent Specialist Provider, with its own Board of Trustees. The College is in a soft Federation with the two schools.

 

Victoria School 

 

Victoria School is an all age 2-19 special school based in Northfield; supporting pupils with cognition and learning needs, profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), physical disabilities and complex medical health and learning needs. We cater for 225 pupils and are extremely proud of our rating of ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2017

 

Victoria College 

 

Victoria College is based on the same site in Northfield.  We support young people with PMLD and complex medical and health needs.  The college opened in 2013 and we have 32 learners on roll.  Victoria College forms a soft federation with us. The College has yet to be inspected. 

 

Cherry Oak School

Cherry Oak is a Primary Special School for children aged 4-11 years and is based in Selly Oak. Our pupils have Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties and/or Cognition and Learning Difficulties. Approximately half of our pupils are diagnosed as being on the Autism Spectrum. All have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and are referred to the school via Birmingham City Council’s Special Education Needs Assessment and Review service, known as SENAR.  We cater for 112 pupils.

The Federation’s vision is ‘working together for success’. Our aim is to increase every individual pupil’s knowledge and understanding of the world so that their full potential may be achieved.’

 

The current Executive Head Teacher of the Federation is retiring, after more than 4 outstanding years, due to relocating in August 2021. The Board of Governors is seeking to appoint an inspirational and dynamic leader who has the ability to drive forward our vision, ensuring that all children and young people within the Federation have an outstanding education.

 

If you have an outstanding track record as a senior leader with experience in SEN settings, then this role offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to challenge yourself in a new environment.  

Applicants must be committed to high quality teaching and learning and should have the creativity and vision to inspire and lead change but also the focus to ensure successful outcomes are reached. You will need a ‘can-do’ attitude that can inspire and engage students, parents/carers, staff and the local community.

The role needs a compassionate and strong leader, who is confident and positive and has the skills to build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.  Above all, you will share our passion and belief that children and young people, their learning and development, and their potential, is at the heart of all decisions.

To become our new Executive Head Teacher you will have:

  • A proven, successful track record of extensive senior leadership experience;

  • The ability to balance the day to day operational management of Victoria School with the strategic responsibilities to the School and Federation

  • The ability to lead with clear direction, building on the outstanding success of the Federation;

  • The strategic expertise, innovation and drive to help build on the exciting plans that have been established and are in place for the Federation’s future development;

  • A commitment to ensure that all children and young people achieve the very best outcomes at each of the three settings;

  • A clear and focused strategic vision, combined with highly effective communication skills that will inspire, motivate and lead all key stakeholders, and our wider partnerships, forward for further success.

Calling Volunteer School Governors

 

The Federation of Cherry Oak School and Victoria School is looking to recruit 3 new Governors to fill vacancies left by retiring Governors.

 

Being a school Governor is a wonderful way to give back to the community, especially if you have a passion for quality special needs education.

 

The commitment is for up to 5 meetings of the Full Governing Board per year (currently 7-9pm Wednesday evenings). Ideally, each Governor should also participate in one of our Committees:

  • Teaching & Learning
  • Buildings, Health and Safety
  • Personnel
  • Finance.

 

These meet once per term (3 per year) with the exception of Finance which may meet up to 5 times per year.

 

We welcome Governors' involvement in the school and visits to see education in practice or to attend special events. 

 

Currently, we especially need a Governor to join our Buildings, Health and Safety Committee, so would welcome interest from anyone in construction, project management, health & safety, resilience or critical incident response.
